Beginner Programs
Valley Youth Hockey has several options for Beginner Programs:
- First Strides (Learn to Skate): 3-8 years old
- IP/Mini Mites: 4-7 years old
- First Goals: 9-12 years old
Beginner programs traditionally start in October/November and end in March.
First Strides (Learn to Skate):
For ages 3-8, learn to skate in a safe environment with the support of a number of coaches and players from the Valley organization. Lessons will be one hour in length. All children are required to wear skates, a helmet and heavy winter or ice hockey gloves. Our coaches will work with the children to build their confidence and proficiency with skating – the primary building block of becoming an ice hockey player!
IP/MINI MITES (6U):
For ages 4-7 who are looking for an entry point into the sport of ice hockey. Players must wear full hockey equipment and will play fun games to help introduce them to the game. The program includes one mid-week evening practice and one weekend practice weekly from Oct – March.
First Goals:
An “in house” recreational program for players ages 9-12 that provides a low cost, low commitment, no travel alternative for youth players. Whether your child is just starting out at the sport and does not feel ready to play on a full time team or your family is seeking a way to enjoy the game of hockey with less time commitment, this program is the only one of its kind in the area and can be a great fit.
